AUTO REVIEW: SUNBEAM-TALBOT
The latest Auto Review book is now available, on Sunbeam-Talbot including the separate stories of Sunbeam, Talbot and Darracq. A sample illustration from the book is in the print edition. The next titles will be Armstrong Siddeley, Fine Bodies (Coachbuilt in Britain), DAF cars and Tractors & Traction Engines.
Now here is the latest appeal for material I can include in forthcoming Auto Review books: future subjects include the Sherpa van story, Alvis, Aston Martin, Lagonda, Hillman, Singer, Jensen, Allard, Railton, aviatrices (lady pilots), and many other subjects (20+ others in our plan so far).
If you have any illustrations (advertisements, sales brochures, your own photographs etc) or any personal anecdotes you can offer on any subject, please send them to me as soon as possible for inclusion in future publications. I also invite your suggestions for future titles; all your ideas are welcome...

TOUCHWOOD MODELS
Stuart Delf gives us an update on his Touchwood range of 1:43 scale record breakers and contenders. New Touchwood Models include the following:
1898 Jeantaud, the first official Land Speed Record holder. In kit form this model costs £37.50, or fully built it costs £115.50.
The 1954 Lloyd Roland streamliner Class J record holder at Montlhéry, costs £34.00 in kit form, or built it will cost you £95.00.
The Ex-RAE MG EX127, is available built only at £70.00. Stuart says, ‘I am in the process of buying the masters and moulds for all RAE Models MG record breakers. This is the first one cast from their old mould, and it will be a limited run, so it is the last chance to obtain one of the old RAE models. As this model is bigger than 1:43 scale, I intend to remaster it’.
GB11, the 1933 Mercedes SSKL of Otto Merz, was involved in a fatal crash. This is a limited edition model, available only in built form at £105.00.You can contact Touchwood Models at 70 Two Saints Close, Hoveton, Norwich, Norfolk NR12 8QR, telephone 01603 782231, email stuart.delf@touchwoodmodels.com
CLUB NEWS
Collated by Rod WardWessex Smalltalk the newsletter of the Wessex Model and Toy Collectors notes that their 25th anniversary Club model will be the new Lansdowne Bentley 8 Litre in dark silver with a black leathercloth effect top and maroon interior, only available to members. Join now! The Natal Diecast Model Collectors have a special free offer with every subscription renewal; a cooler bag big enough for a six-pack of beer. Now there’s a club which has its priorities right... Maidenhead Static Model Club is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a posh dinner at the Holiday Inn, Maidenhead, free to all members. A special room rate has been fixed for those too inebriated to drive home, or for those members who live a long way from Maidenhead. It makes us all feel very old. Have they really been going 40 years? Seems like only yesterday. Showcase, the West Australian Model Collectors Club magazine includes an extensive feature on scale models of Mercedes-Benz cars. Editor Keith Allen really knows how to pack lots in to 32 pages.
EFE 1:24 RF BUS
Frank Joyce tells us that tooling is progressing steadily on the EFE 1:24 scale RF bus. ‘The tooling pattern looks stunning, and shows the potential for a unique and desirable model’, he says. Frank and Mark have also ‘been out and about’ measuring up vehicles for the next 1:76 scale EFE model releases.
CHANGES AT CORGI
Corgi advise some changes to planned models:
CC15101 JCB 3C Mk I excavator will not now be ‘weathered’, but will be released in ‘pristine’ finish.
US54906 E-One 75 foot ladder Lamar Fire Department: Some tooling components have been ‘lost in transit’, so the now-incomplete model has been cancelled.
Book Reviews
Corgi advise some changes to planned models:
Pocket Guide to BRITAINS Farm Model & Toy TRACTORS 1998-2008 By David Pullen, hardbound, 496 pages, 148 x 210mm. 1,450 colour pictures. Veloce Publishing Ltd, 33 Trinity Street, Dorchester, Dorset DT1 1TT, email: sales@veloce.co.uk. ISBN 978-1-84584-222-2 £29.99 UK, $59.95 USA
David Pullen comes from East Anglia. They must have very big pockets there, to fit in this bulky tome. He has also written A Pocket Guide to Britains Model Tractors 1948-1998 and Britains Farm Model Balers & Combines 1967-2007, the latter recently reviewed in MAR. This comprehensive guide only covers Britains model and toy tractors produced since 1998; a surprisingly long list of every tractor released in Europe and North America. Each model is given two pages of detailed coverage, including half a dozen colour pictures. Every production model, prototypes and rarities are covered. An amazingly detailed coverage, all that any tractor collector, or Britains collector, could wish for. Highly recommended.
Rod WardRiesen-Traktoren (Giant Tractors) by Dieter Theyssen, Bernhard Roes, Peter D Simpson, German text. 192 pages, 313 photos. Hardbound 220 x 250 mm. Available from Heel Verlag, Gut Pottscheid, 53639 Königswinter, Germany. email: info@heel-verlag.de. ISBN 978-3-86852-180-1. €14.95
This book describes more than 120 super tractors, mostly four wheel drive, by manufacturers like Acremaster, Big Bud, Case IH, John Deere, Ford, New Holland, Massey Ferguson, Versatile or Wagner. Some products from smaller manufacturers are also shown. An impressive book, also useful as reference for any tractor enthusiast.
