EDITORIAL
by Rod Ward

HAPPY 2010

Thanks to everyone who sent us New Year greetings and who spent the ‘holiday’ period usefully, producing articles for future MAR issues. We now have some really interesting material to hand, some of it in this issue, others for over the next few months, but we always need more...?

DON’T FILTER US OUT!

Please ensure that you are able to receive emails from us. We get a lot of email enquiries, which we do our best to answer. It is irritating, therefore, if our emails are returned undelivered, because they have been rejected by an overly sensitive spam filter. Make sure that your system isn’t stopping you getting messages you have requested from us. Add our addresses to your ‘white list’.

AUTO REVIEW: Tractors & Traction Engines

The latest Auto Review book is now available, on Tractors & Traction Engines (see page 22). AThe next titles published will be the Sherpa van story (including the Morris J van, JB, 250JU, J4 etc) and the Alvis Album, followed by ‘200 years of Peugeot’. Future titles will include the stories of Jensen, Allard, Railton, AC, Lotus, Reliant, TVR, Gilbern, Rochdale, Fairthorpe, and many others, plus aviatrices (lady pilots), and many other subjects (20+ others in our plan so far). If you have any illustrations (advertisements, sales brochures, your own photographs etc) or any personal anecdotes you can offer on any subject, please send them to me as soon as possible for inclusion in future publications. I also invite your suggestions for future titles; all your ideas are welcome...

1:18 BRITISH CARS FOR 2010

Not everyone is responding to the recession by cutting back on their forward plans. Two 1:18 diecast British cars are planned for this year; a Jaguar Mark II and an Austin Seven. We are looking forward to seeing both models.

On 24 April 2010 from 10:00 am to 16:00 pm the 12th annual Porsche Model Club Europe Collectors Swapmeet and Exhibition will be held at the Porsche Museum, Porsche Platz 1, D-70435 Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, Germany. Contact PMC, PO Box 2, NL-7800 AA Emmen, Netherlands. email: info@koop-co.nl

CLUB NEWS
Collated by Rod Ward

he Maidenhead Static Model Club monthly newsletter. Wheel Nuts had a couple of interesting features of interest to collectors of British cars. Did you know of a 1:12 scale Morris Minor convertible, with timber framing at the sides like a Morris Traveller? It is driven by a rabbit wearing glasses... Because it is a ‘Sylvanian Families’ accessory. Also, the story of Gordon-Keeble cars is succinctly told by Cliff Maddock. Wheel Nuts, the South Hants Model Auto Club magazine, also features a Morris Minor, the 1000 four door saloon as made by Spot-On, described by Jason Mitchell. Mick Haven describes buying the highly detailed HPI models, which have been dumped in TK Maxx stores, so it looks as though the Japanese company has decided not to continue with its diecast range. They asked me for advice when they first planned the range. I advised against doing it at all, but they went ahead anyway. The Natal Diecast Model Collectors newsletter is struggling on, with Laura Myers as stand-in Editor, until the post is filled permanently, but at least there are some contributons from members, to encourage any volunteer to relaunch the publication. The latest issue of The Brooklin Collector, organ of the Brooklin Collectors Club, is mostly devoted to real American cars, many of them described and photographed by Al Stack, but I suppose that is ok with the members, as it must be their interest in US cars which encouraged them to buy Brooklins in the first place.

Book Reviews

Chrysler in Miniature By Randall Olson. Pub: Randall Olson, 1744 Taralawn Court, Burnaby, B.C. V5B3H5, Canada, email randallolson@telus.net 125 pages 212 x 275mm, hardbound with dustjacket, 500 colour photos, US$49.95 plus $8 for shipping anywhere in the world.
Not available through bookstores (even on-line). Order from the above email address using PayPal, or send an IMO in US$ to the above street address. Give your name, delivery address, telephone number and email address.

Following Randall’s previous volumes on Ford in Miniature and GM in Miniature, he now covers 1:43 scale handbuilt and diecast Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge, Imperial, Plymouth, and Dodge Trucks. It is very comprehensive coverage; some of the models pictured and described are very scarce or one of a kind. There are lists of significant Chrysler Corporation models from the 1920s to the present day, and detailed profiles of selected models, including production dates, colours, issue prices and numbers made. I was fascinated to read the potted biographies of 32 firms which have made Chrysler replicas. Randall is producing and distributing the third book in the series himself. He has undertaken all aspects including typing, layout and administration and he is using a printing-on- demand publisher who he says does excellent work. If you are a Mopar fan, or if you just like models of American cars, you will find this volume essential. Order your copy from Randall now.

TEKNO Volumes 1 and 2: Argus Illustré by E Flament, published by SAFAM, BP40, 78230 Le Pecq, France. 52 pages A4 size softbound, profusely illustrated. ISBN 978-2-9531031-6-8. €26 pervolume within France, €28 per volume outside France.
Etienne Flament has produced an extensive survey of Tekno in these two volumes. They are fairly pricey at €56 for the two (around £50.00) but you get tables of every release, variant, colour etc, as well as dozens of colour photographs. Coverage includes cars, trucks, buses, military vehicles and aircraft. It will provide an ideal companion to the series of articles on Danish Tekno currently running in MAR.

MA COLLECTION UPDATE
By Michel Sordet
In 2009 Ma Co released four new models:

116 Delahaye 145 V12 roadster Franay 1946, 112B Bugatti 57 roadster Gangloff-Figoni 1939, 113 Delage D8 Coupe Aeroprofil Grümmer 1934 and 119 Peugeot 601 saloon Aeroprofil Grümmer 1934.

In the first half of 2010 I will release:

1950 Delahaye 135 panoramic Letourneur & Marchand coach in metallic light blue (like Ma Co 110 Delage, but on a Delahaye).
1936 Bugattti 57 Graber Sport Saloon, chassis 57443 in royal blue or in black/ivory.
1949 Delahaye 175 Saoutchik roadster, chassis 815023, a very impressive car in turquoise.
1934 Renault Nervasport Grümmer Aeroprofil coupe with a standard radiator (not shaped) in black.

I am also considering making a Voisin convertible, a Delage factory coupe, a Talbot Lago Saoutchik coupe or Graber convertible, a Bugatti T57 van Vooren convertible or T101, and the Hotchkiss and Citroën with Grümmer Aeroprofil bodies.
