Here is a list of new St Petersburg Tram Collection releases:TRAMS
New Washington tram is released now. This is a pre-PCC car from the 1935 delivery, in this case built by J G Brill Co. (403). It will be available in both 1:43 and 1:48 scales.
TROLLEYBUSES
The Twin Coach Model 44GTT trolleybus of 1943 is available now also in Atlanta livery (Itd edn of 50) and the Chicago Pullman-Standard trolleybus is available now in its original livery of 1948 (Ltd edn of 50). Our first Vancouver trolleybus is also released now This is an ex-Birmingham, Alabama, Pullman. 24 such vehicles were sold to Vancouver in 1956. This model (189a) is also limited to 50. Another ZIU trolleybus from Argentina is out now, from the original 1989 batch, but converted to two-door configuration in recent years. Only 25 made.
BUSES
The Twin Coach Model 40 Transit bus is released now in Brooklyn, NY livery (218c ltd edn of 80). In 1924, The Brooklyn Bus Corp was formed to operate buses as feeders to Brooklyn Streetcar lines and became a Brooklyn & Queens Transit (B&QT) subsidiary in 1929. The company equipped its routes with 225 new buses in 1931. 175 of them were Twin Coach Model 40 buses, the largest order for this model. Our first school bus model is also released now, a Carpenter Crown School bus on a Ford chassis. The Ralph H Carpenter Body Co. built its first horse drawn school wagon in 1919. Carpenter Industries Inc still produce a large range of school buses. The Crown Classic conventional model is one of the most popular school buses. Carpenter acquired Crown Commercial Buses in 1991, now designated 'Crown by Carpenter'. Also in 1994 Carpenter acquired Wayne, one of the most famous school bus builders. All Carpenter operations moved to the 533,000 square foot Wayne plant in Richmond, Indiana. This model (203) will be released in a limited batch of 80. Danish readers of MAR will know that Peter Kirschoff of AA-Modelbilklub, MAR stockist in Copenhagen was in a car accident on 24 March. We wish him a speedy recovery, and that he will soon return to his shop and club. A Fontes, proprietor of Bazar Crisano, MAR stockist in Oporto, attended the Rally of Portugal, where his small son presented to Colin McRae a 1:43 model of his Ford Focus. This was a Provence Moulage kit, built by Bazar Crisano. Colin was surprised and pleased to get a model of his own car, but there was no confirmation of rumours that he would like to drive for the Stewart F1 team.CULT CAR CORVETTES

Here is an update on my range of Speed Record car models, all 1:43 resin handbuilt in Italy, mounted on signed wooden or Forex base, limited and numbered editions of 300 or less. First, those available now:13 Hoffman-Markley, 1992 Class 9 flying Mile record holder, which first ran at Bonneville in 1989 and set a number of Bonneville class records, plus the FIA Class 9 flying mile International record in 1992, driven by Harry Hoffman Jr (edition: 200).
12 Al Teague's Speed-o-Motive, 1991 wheel-driven LSR holder, also known as the Spirit of 76, this single-engined, rear-wheel-driven streamliner, built and driven by Al Teague, set at Bonneville a new Land Speed Record for wheel driven vehicles at 409,986 mph, beating the old record set in 1965 by the four-engined, four-wheel-drive Goldenrod.
11 Fiat-Abarth 500 Bertone,1956 long distance record car. After setting records in the 750 class (see ref 9), the car, repainted in silver and yellow, set eight more with a 500 cc engine. In slightly modified form it later set more records with a larger engine and again with a 500 cc. unit 9 Flat-Abarth 750 Bertone, 1956 long distance record car. In its red and white livery, this car set six class H records at Monza in June 1956, then went on to set 14 more with different engines and livery (ref 11). TOM BONNEVILLE CARS

The TOM range of Bonneville Speed Record cars is ready built in resin, mounted on perspex bases, in limited editions. Built in Italiy, the Tom range focuses on cars which ran at Bonneville Speed Week.2 'Knot' Farrington's Ford Thunderbird, 1962. Heavily modified, this red metallic car looks almost like a streamliner. It set several class records over the years.
1 Summers Brothers streamllner, 1962, the first streamliner built by brothers Bob and Bill Summers, who later built Goldenrod' which held the WLSR for wheel driven cars until 1961. This streamliner, also known as the pollywog, set a numer of class records at Bonneville between 1960 and1962. Future releases

OMICRON RECORD CARS

Omicron speed record car models are ready built in resin, mounted on Forex bases. The Omicron range of record cars is built in Italy by a distinguished model maker, who I help with research and distribution. Available:6 Mercedes-Benz three litre record car, 1939. In this car, built on a W154 Grand Prix chassis, Rudolf Caracciola set kilometre and mile standing start Class D International records on the autobahn near Dessau.
5 Auto Union streamllned record car, 1937. This car shared the same body with the Avus streamlined car and set 12 class records and three World records, driven by Berndt Rosemeyer. lt was later modified for Rosemeyer to attack the Mercedes records.
4 Ermie Immerso's Thunderbird Turbine streamliner, 1976, an unconventional Bonneville car powered by two Avco Lycoming turbine engines and with four-wheel drive, it still holds the Speed Week record for this type of vehicle, 264.903 mph, set in 1978 by Ermie's son, Marvin.
3 Wilhelm Herz NSU streamliner, 1965, powered by motorcycle engines of 250 and 350 cc, built and driven by motorcyclist W Herz, this little yellow and blue streamliner set class records at the Salt Flats in 1965 and then in Germany in 1966 and 1971.
2 Art Arfons' Green Monster 'Anteater', 1960, the first car built for Bonneville by Arfons, called Green Monster, like all his cars, it was dubbed The Anteater because of its long nose. Powered by an Allison engine, it was not fast enough for the WLSR, but set fastest speed at Speed Week 1961. The model, like the real car, is unpainted matt aluminium.
1 Auto Union streamllned record car, 1938, the car in which Berndt Rosemeyer was killed on the Autobahn while attempting a new class record.

Francis Pierre's ATM range of construction plant models is handbuilt in France, mostly 1:50 scale. Recent 1:50 releases include a Euclid C6 crawler tractor with metal tracks, a Euclid RX100 4x4 dumptruck and a Rapier 940 tracked dragline with welded brass lattice boom. The latter is also on metal tracks, and the mechanism can be operated by a screwdriver. The tractor costs 1000 Francs, the dumptruck 2200F and the dragline 2550F.Next releases will be a Marion 111M tracked cable operated face shovel and an American Hoist 900 tracked cable operated backhoe excavator. Previously featured in MAR, Charles Biggs makes 'First class models from the First World War', handbuilt in 1:32 scale. Most of his models are 'toy soldiers' but there are some vehicles and other apparatus to complement them. For 1999 the biggest are:9913 A7V Hagen German tank (four built in the Great War)
9914 Heavy Ambulance (described as a Ford Model T, but it is much larger)These models are likely to cost around £150.00 each. Other new releases include a walking military cyclist, a cyclist in solar topee, Indian despatch rider with turban, US motorcycle combination, hospital wheel-chair set and various field guns and artillery pieces with crews. The Charles Biggs 'Premier Model Collection' adds 15 new pieces this year, to make up a total of 21 items in the range.

Further to mentions of Oxford Die-Cast Ltd in MAR, I will now describe our company, which was set up in 1993, using its first product, the Morris Bullnose, for promotionals. Now there are buses, vans and trucks and 10,000 members in the collectors' club.Oxford recently opened a factory in South Wales, where some of the finest diecast products were made from the 1950s to 1980s, so it is not surprising that core personnel are ex-Mettoy and Corgi. Club members are pleased that all models are certificated limited editions, and as a new range, collectors could own all the models. This is now becoming more difficult, as earlier models are no longer available. The company celebrated its fifth birthday last October. 1998 saw the setting up of our own manufacturing facilities, and production of our two millionth vehicle. Our 25,000 square foot factory is in Neath, South Wales for many years a centre for diecast model production. The need for our own factory became obvious as demand continually exceeded supply to the UK and overseas.
The factory includes zinc die-casting. plastic injection moulding, painting, ink printing, vacuum metallising, assembly and packing; total production under one roof. There is a new range of US liveries, first is the Days Inn Ford T to be followed with others over the next 18 months. New Yorker and Thorson have already been released. A separate US Oxford club will be run from California and Atlanta serving both the West and East Coasts. In the last two years we have run several UK John West promotions. On 28 November 1898 the West German Benzole company and on 1 December 1898 the East German Benzol sales association were founded, which united to form the German Benzol Association in 1906. At the turn of the century it was planned to use Benzole to power internal combustion engines. After hard times during and after the First World War, the yellow and black petrol stations sold their products under the new name of ARAL. In 1927 the colours changed to blue and white, still in use today, to stop confusion with yellow and black traffic signs. In 1938 BV-ARAL owned around 10,000 petrol filling stations, among 60,000 of all brands. After the Second World Waronly 4,200 blue and white stations remained in West Germany and by 1995 there were only 2,607 with 1443 employees and with a turnover of 19,1 billion DM. For their 100th anniversary the ARAL company have produced an interesting book Erlebte Geschichte-Hundert Jahre ARAL, and a Solido Ford V8 tanker from 1936 in 1:19 scale in blue with black wings with BV-ARAL logos. No, not the play by Shakespeare, but the first group of releases from Schuco this year, which offers something for almost every kind of 1:43 model vehicle collector. >From the past comes 02393 DKW van Deutsche Bundespost. With the F89 van in 1949 the reopened Auto Union factory recommenced vehicle production at the Ingolstadt plant. It reached the market before its lifelong Volkswagen competitor, but it wasless succesful. Today both marques are in the same group. 58,792 F89s were built, in various body versions up to 1962, and the model is accurate in 1:43 scale. It has photoetched parts for the bonnet handle, the single windscreen wiper and the air-intakes in front of the side-doors. The odd-looking rear view mirrors are also accurate, and the interior is spartan, like the real van. Comfortable driving conditions were not regarded as necessary for commercial vehicles at that time. The paint is not too glossy, but semi-gloss yellow like all postal vehicles of the period.From the past now to the present in 1:43 scale, with 04353 BMW 328i saloon, the current 3 Series, the first model batch produced only for BMW. The body and the wheels are accurate and the interior is well modelled, but the unpainted plastic looks a bit too cheap. 04412 Porsche 911 (type 996) Cabriolet. The body,baseplate and wheel rims are very accurate , and also the interior, which is painted and looks more authentic. Only the sun visors are missing. 04453 Mercedes-Benz CLK Cabriolet with soft top, After a very good open version now the soft top with closed hood is available in dark blue, metallic silver or black. 04521Opel Astra B Notchback. The original was first shown to the public at the Geneva Show last year and unveiled first in Germany at the Spring Leipzig motor show in April 1998. It has been well reproduced here, in metallic darkblue, red or metallic dark brown. Chromeline is a new range of model cars with chromed bodies, including 04149, the BMW Z3 with spoked alloy wheel rims and black interior with bright red seats. Also available is the Porsche Turbo. Now available to collectors who cannot get to a Volkswagen dealer is the New VW Beetle. After comparison with the first issue, made for Volkswagen, the radiator grille is now fitted with fog-lamps and the air-intakes are painted black, like the current real car. Schuco had outdated CAD data previously. Also the back of the roof over the rear screen now curves more like the real car, much better than the earlier issue.
The vase of flowers on the dashboard is included. The sales of the real car are slower than Volkswagen marketing forecasts for Europe, but this is mainly due to their pricing policy. The model is available in red, yellow, white or as a black special edition 'Black Magic'. In the Schuco Classic range another Micro Racer has been reissued, 01701 Mercedes-Benz 220S in 1:49 scale with an especially long running and fast clockwork mechan-ism, and with micro precision steering by screw. The model is finished in the old style and painted in two colours, it is packed in a nostalgic printed card box.

The most important Brekina toy fair news this year was the model of the Opel Rekord C type, which is ready now. The original was voted in by the readers of Brekina Autoheft 1997 as their preferred model and Brekina responded quickly with production. It is in the shops in good time for the Centenary of Opel. Since 1953 Opel made the Rekord-range, updated from time to time.The C-type was launched in 1966, the sixth and most successful of the middle-class Opels. In five years over 1.2 million were built. The curved lines of the body came as part of the coke bottle-design from America. At the end of 1971 production ended. The Commodore range was based on the same body, but had a more powerful six-cylinder engine and more luxury. Both models were also used by Police, fire service, army and taxi operators, so we can expect to see many versions.
The Rekord C type was also announced at the toy fair by Busch, so once it has been released, the customer can choose. The Brekina model is shaped quite well, the interior is a bit simple, and the baseplate could be more detailed. Very good are the chrome bumpers and hup caps. The grille and emblems are clearly visible, but where are the front turn-indicators?

836 Platform car with stakes of the former German Reichsbahn railway system, loaded with an Sd.Kfz 7 medium half-track tractor of the former German Army. This vehicle carried 11 men and could pull a load of eight tons. Between 1934 and 1944 around 12,000 were built, mostly by Krauss-Maffei of Munich.
HOT WHEELS + STEWART
Mattel Inc has signed a worldwide partner-ship agreement with Stewart Grand Prix Ltd to create, manufacture and market Stewart Grand Prix branded products.The Hot Wheels Stewart Grand Prix product line will include radio control vehicles, electric racing vehicles and track set toys for children, as well as replica diecast vehicles, available from July 1999.
