Ten times per year we have a free competition. All you have to do is send in your entry. All correct entries are put in a 'hat' and the winner(s) chosen at random. In the last year our prizes have totalled many thousands of pounds in value, all donated by our generous friends in the model car business.
COMPETITION MAR 244
LANSDOWNE LAGONDA RAPIDEOur prize in this issue has again been generously donated by Brooklin, a 1:43 handbuilt Lansdowne LDM78 Lagonda V12 Rapide drophead coupe from 1939 in gunmetal grey. Our questions relate to 1939, more of our ‘trains and boats and planes’ questions for those of a wider transport interest than just cars:
1) Duchess of Hamilton was sent to New York in 1939 then toured America. What was it?
2) Who took the World’s Land Speed Record in 1939, then improved on it in 1947, the record standing unbeaten until 1964?
3) Illustrious, Victorious and Formidable were all launched in 1939. What were they?
4) Which Grand Prix took place on the same day (3 Sept) that Britain declared war on Germany? It was Nuvolari’s last victory.
5) The Stratoliner, the first pressurised airliner, first flew in 1939. Who built it?Send your answers on a nice picture postcard to MAR 244 Competition, 81 Main Street, Monk Fryston, Leeds LS25 5DU, UK or fax or phone to +44 (0) 1977 681991 or email to editor@mar.zeteo.com.
Answers must arrive with us no later than 20 August 2010. If you send answers by email, please add a postal address, or you won’t be considered for a prize. The names of those who give at least three correct answers will be listed in MAR 246, along with all the answers.
Please note the closing date for this competition. Once again we remind you that the date is FINAL. Any entry received after the final date will not be listed in MAR 246, nor considered for the prize. Multiple entries will be disqualified.
